Gordon's Story - Young Writer Competition

Touchwood launches Young Writer Competition

Once upon a time in Solihull, there lived a curious monkey called Gordon…where his story goes next is up to you, thanks to the launch of a short story competition by Touchwood.

The centre is searching for the region’s next young writer to create a short story about Gordon the monkey with the winning entry being turned into a book.

Children aged between 4 and 12 are encouraged to write 750 words to send the cheeky chap on a literary adventure, whether it be voyaging across the seas or trekking through the jungle. The story can be about anything; it just has to start with the following prompt:

Once upon a time, there lived a curious little monkey called Gordon. Gordon loved to explore and today was no different because today Gordon…

Not only are entrants in with the chance of winning £500 for their school, but the triumphant author’s tale will be brought to life as it will be published into a shiny new book! Copies will be awarded to the winner and their classmates, as well as being available at Touchwood for Solihull’s young readers to enjoy.

Getting involved couldn’t be easier; simply pop into the centre and pick up an entry form from 7th March. The deadline for entry is the 7th April and full terms and conditions will apply.

Fun for mini-writers doesn’t end there. To celebrate World Book Day, a giant story book will be unveiled in centre from 7th-12th March. Come along to snap a selfie with the fairy tale sized pages!

Lucy Burnett, Marketing Manager at Touchwood, comments: “This is a great opportunity for children to showcase their literary skills whilst celebrating imagination and creativity. We fully support the development of our younger guests and can’t wait to read the adventures Gordon is sent on!”
